Make delivering treats and meals to neighbors easy this holiday season with Rubbermaid TakeAlongs and a simple tote tutorial!

rubbermaid-holiday-4

Undoubtedly, my favorite part of the holiday season is the food.  Mmm, the foooood!  Thanksgiving feasts and cookie exchanges and Christmas parties and treats from neighbors…it’s all just such a glorious season for celebrating with delicious things.

While the cabinet where I keep my plastic food storage containers is always a big fat mess, I find myself running out of containers more and more at this time of year.  Whether it’s delivering treats to friends and family or storing leftovers from all our parties and big dinners, I never seem to have enough containers to store food (to say nothing of matching lids…where do those things GO?!).

I love these Rubbermaid TakeAlongs from Walmart because they’re available in festive red, green and holiday prints (from now until December 24th!), are available in tons of sizes and they’re affordable enough to give away!  They’re super easy to open and close securely, and they can safely go in the freezer, microwave and dishwasher.  (You can find them on an end cap in the housewares department.)

I recently found myself wishing I had the perfect tote to carry several food storage containers so that I could more easily deliver dinners and treats to friends.  So today I’ve got a tutorial for a quick and easy solution!  This tote is the perfect size for the biggest of the Rubbermaid containers (as well as perfect for hauling a 9″x13″ casserole pan) and deep enough to stack several on top of each other.  There’s room for an entire dinner for a friend (with room for entree, side salad and dessert) or just use it for delivering several containers of cookies!

The holiday season is creeping up and I’m getting so excited!  I fully realize that we still have Halloween and Thanksgiving to get through but Costco’s decorations and toys were already out today so I couldn’t help it!

And if you’re in the market for gifts…everyone knows handmade is always better!  Have you guys seen See Kate Sew‘s new line of doll fabric and coordinating prints?  Seriously the cutest, most genius idea ever.  The dolls come pre-printed ON the the fabric, so all I had to do was cut them out, sew them together and stuff them!  My kids went crazy over them!

Harry Potter Fan Tee

We kinda, sorta missed a couple kids’ birthdays while in France, so we did a little late celebrating this past week.  Liam turn 11 (ELEVEN!!!  How did we get here??) this month and I’m absolutely in love with the little man he’s becoming.  Now that we’ve figured out his stomach problems, he’s such a pleasant, sweet kid with a hilarious sense of humor.

He’s also completely obsessed with Harry Potter and has now read the entire series through FOUR times!  That’s dedication, man.  I decided to make him a fun HP-themed shirt for his birthday and this is what we came up with.

Bare Basics for Baby (plus 12 minute blanket tutorial)

It seems like every mom-blogger has created an “essentials for baby” list and most of them are SO different!  The thing is, nothing but experience can tell any new mom what products and gadgets will be the most helpful as their baby grows.  Keeping 7 babies alive (so far, so good!) has taught me that there are really only a few true necessities for a newborn. You ready for them?

Here they are:

*a blanket
*outfits
*stuff for feeding baby
*stuff for handling the poop.

That’s it.

Last week I ran to Target (because…TARGET) to grab some gift basket stuff for my little sister’s brand new baby (isn’t Crosby so cute?? MY OVARIES!) and I just kept it to the basics this time.  She had all the big stuff already from her first son and besides, she’s a minimalist. Click read more below for all the deets on each necessity and what I love about them!

Real Life Fashion for 2016

Welcome to 2016, y’all!  I am way excited about this fresh start, my new personal goals and the awesome things I have in store for the blog and you fabulous readers.  Thanks so much for being here; I really, really appreciate you!

aIMG_4715

One of my new exciting ventures for the blog in 2016 is a style series!  I see fashion as a practical art form, capable of giving a woman the confidence she needs to tackle whatever life throws at her.  Yet consistently putting together practical, stylish outfits every day can seem complicated, overwhelming and expensive.  No wonder so many of us just default to yoga pant/pj’s and old college sweatshirts! #momlife

DIY Holiday Gift Roundup

Handmade gifts are some of my most favorite to give and get!  There’s something about the love and time put into a gift that makes it all the more fun.  With 2 weeks left till Christmas, there’s still plenty of time left for a handmade gift (or several!).  Plus, handmade gifts are often much easier on the shrinking gift budget.

I’ve compiled a list of some super simple DIY gifts that your kids, sisters or friends would LOVE.  Time to get cracking!

For the LADIES…

Holiday Shopping Guide: Best Wholesome Toys for Kids!

gift guide banner

Now that Black Friday’s behind us, I’ve checked off quite a few gifts for friends and family members…but still find myself with lots of shopping to do for my kids.  I always go a little overboard during the holidays because, come ON…it’s CHRISTMAS!  If you can’t spoil your kids during the holidays, when can you??

We’ve done some major Kon-Mari-ing up in this hizouse lately and so I’ve had to reevaluate our toy situation over and over again.  I find myself asking “Would I replace this if the house burned down??” And to be honest, there are only a few actual “toys” that I feel are valuable enough and get enjoyed enough to meet this criteria.

If you’re looking for wholesome, non-electric toys that will guarantee hours and hours of imaginative play, check out our favorites below!

DIY Baby Headband Roundup

aaIMG_0603

Having a baby girl is so fun!!  I really did want a little brother for 2 year old Finn but let’s be honest, how can I not love dressing up a little princess??

I sat down at my sewing machine the other day to make some new headbands for Marilyn and then realized that I’m a little out of practice!  I managed to churn out a couple bows but decided to round up a few great tutorials to help anyone wanting to doll up a baby girl.
