Inserting a Zipper in the Infinite A-line Dress

Hate buttonholes?  Try installing a zipper in the Infinite A-line dress instead!

Insert zipper Infinite A-line

Let’s face it: even veteran sewists find themselves with tasks they dread and buttonholes are often at the top of the list!  I’m much happier now that I have a machine that does automatic buttonholes, but no machine is perfect and I still find myself crossing my fingers before making them. 🙂

When I made Kira’s Dia de los Muertos dress, I knew we needed to try inserting a zipper into the Infinite A-line bodice.  If you’ve never added a zipper to a fully lined bodice, you’re in for a treat!  The finished product is so nice and pretty that you’ll wanna give yourself a pat on the back…and brag to anyone who will listen!

It’s really not as difficult as it looks and takes WAY less time than hand sewing a whole bunch of buttons and swearing your way through buttonholes.  Ready?!

Dia de los Muertos Dress

So, you might not know this but I’m basically Mexican.  No, it’s not simply because of my love of tacos, enchiladas and the cha-cha (although these things are all extremely important to me).  I actually lived in Mexico on two separate occasions, for a total of about 5 years.  The first time I was just a little kid, dressed up in my Catholic school uniform, rolling my R’s and telling my mother to please not embarrass me by speaking Spanish in front of my friends since she sounded like a “gringa”.

Infinite A-line Hack: Faux Leather & Circle Skirt

One of my original visions for the Infinite A-line Dress Pattern was hacking it into a fit and flare dress: one with a fitted waist and gathered or twirly skirt.  Participating in the Lil Luxe Design challenge was a great excuse!

GUYS! I am so excited to be releasing the Calypso Culottes pattern!  I’m in love with the fact that culottes are BACK (um, who else totally rocked them in the ’80’s?) and this pattern is the quickest, cutest way to get some in your little munchkins’ closets!

Biker Girl Chic

Hold on to your seats, friends because this is my contribution to the Sew n’ Style Design Contest by Lil Luxe Collection!  It is wild and a little insane and there’s lots of vegan leather everywhere but it was SO much fun to make.  Plus, little Vivsie modeled it all and her abundance of sass most definitely manifests itself in these pictures.  Enjoy!

Infinite A-line Hack: Bias Tape Trim

As a seamstress/sewist/sewer (whatever kids are calling us these days) I am, quite frankly, extremely lazy.  I also happen to hate making neck facings.  When creating the Infinite A-line pattern I chose to fully line the bodice because of this facing-hatred but then I’m confronted with my laziness when I have to make a lining each time I sew the dress.  Ah, the dilemma.

Infinite A-line Hack: Pintuck Yoke and Puff Sleeves

I’m back!  We’ve had serious computer issues around here (finally leading to buying a new one- boo!) and I’ve been DYING to show you this latest hack of the Infinite A-line Dress!  I’ve had a great response to the pattern release (thank you!!) and am looking forward to some exciting things on the horizon for this pattern.  If you don’t have your own copy yet, you can find it HERE.

I found inspiration for this version of the dress on Pinterest (where else??) and have been saving it forever!  It was so fun to figure out how to put it together and create a whole new dress from the same pattern.  Read on for the whole tutorial…

The Infinite A-line Dress Pattern and Blog Tour!

Infinite A-line Dress cover

It’s HERE!!!  I am so thrilled to announce that my very first sewing pattern is ready!  Eeek!!

This little girls’ dress design has been swirling in my head for over a year and after making its creation my one and only New Year’s Resolution for 2015, it’s finally done and ready to share.

For years, every time I sit down to make a dress for one of my girls, I’ve felt like I had to reinvent the wheel.  I usually have a specific design in mind to create and I hate buying a new dress pattern every time I want a unique style.  I also got tired of drafting patterns from store-bought dresses over and over again.

Eventually I realized that if I could create an A-line style dress with several sleeve and bodice options, I could give fellow mama sewists the perfect pattern they need to recreate the dress they’ve been dreaming of.

Basic A-line silhouette?  Check.  Empire waist with gathered skirt?  Yup.  How about short, long, cap and ruffled sleeve options?  Got it!  I’ve had so much fun thinking up potential variations of this pattern that I couldn’t possibly include them all.

Instead, I’ll be adding tutorials to the blog regularly for exciting new twists on this style.  Some of my ideas include color-blocking, a V-neck back and tiered ruffles…be sure to subscribe because I can’t wait to show you!

You can purchase the Infinite A-line Dress Pattern HERE.
