Flattering Post-Partum Pounds & DIY: The Dress

Dresses are THE best!!  They’re comfy, cool, flattering and, best of all…quick to sew!  These two are my latest favorites for flattering my extra curves.  These styles work best for someone with an hourglass-ish figure.  If you carry most of your weight in the belly area then you’ll obviously want to look more towards tunic style dresses, rather than those with a cinched in waist.

aaaIMG_1025This wild and crazy print can be found at Girl Charlee HERE.  It’s a crepe de chine which was slightly tricky to work with on the placket but is surprisingly cool to wear!  Bonus: Under $7 a yard!

aaaIMG_1027I used Jocole’s Quick Dress pattern and it was a total breeze to whip up.  I changed just two things: the elastic at the waist is pulled through a knit casing I sewed onto the inside (I’m not even sure what the instructions tell you to do…I was too lazy to open them.  That’s how easy this pattern is!) and I added a placket so i could nurse in it.  Check out this tutorial HERE for an easy way to do it!  I used to be really intimidated by them but they’re no big deal.

I’m also loving this Lady Skater Dress by Kitschy Coo.  It was also reeeeally easy to make and reminds me of all those Lularoe dresses that everyone’s buying lately.

I used a ponte knit for this one; one I got in a Knitfix bag from Girl Charlee.  It’s a monthly fabric bag with 6 unique 2-yard cuts of gorgeous knits not found on the regular site.  It’s a tad addicting to get a grab bag of amazing knits every month…don’t say I didn’t warn you!

aaaIMG_0857The nice thing about this ponte is that it has a great recovery so I can pull it down to nurse the baby nugget and the neck pops right back into place.  Bonus: It’s LEOPARD.  Leopard is my jam.

The bad news: it’s a bit hot for a Phoenix summer, especially with a baby on me.  *Le Sigh*

So ready for Fall!!
aaaIMG_0863Excited to whip up a couple more of these babies soon!

Hello. I love your Jocole’s dress! I live in France and I can not find the owner of the site you propose. Could you help me? I like your blog and your instagram.
    Sorry for my poor English.

  3. I found your blog and this post looking for a way to DIY the Lularoe Amelia dress and you have a perfect (not exact, but honestly better) copy of it! I have nothing against Lularoe but they are just so expensive for something I KNOW I can make myself with the help of a pattern or two.

Thank you for linking to the pattern! 🙂

  1. […] guys, I know we talked about how flattering dresses can be on a post-partum body already but the shirtdress deserves a category all it’s own for one reason: nursing access! […]
